【CNW.com.cn专稿】Windows Server 2008是微软最新的服务器操作系统，据说会带来很多的新功能特性，比如在网络方面，提供的Direct Access，可以轻松的实现VPN联网。比如他的Branch cache可以实现广域网的应用加速，比如他对NAC的支持，比如对IPv6的支持。而这其中的很多企业级应用的功能需要配合Vista最好是即将发布的Windows 7实现。

Windows Server 2008它继承了Windows Server 2003[1][2].Windows Server 2008在进行开发及测试时的代号为Windows Server "Longhorn".

Windows Server 2008 是一套和Windows Vista（代号为Longhorn）相对应的服务器操作系统系统，两者拥有很多相同功能。与Windows 2000的Professional版和Server版一样，两者在开发时共用大多数的程式码，连Service Pack皆可共用；Vista和Server 2008、XP和Server 2003 间存在相似的关系。（XP和Server 2003的代号分别为Whistler及Whistler Server）

开发历程

Windows Server 2008 的测试版本 Server Longhorn Beta 1 于2005年7月27日发布、Beta 2 版本则于2006年5月23日公布，2007年4月发布了功能发展齐备的Beta 3版本。Release Candidate 0（下称RC）在2007年9月24日[3]公布。RC 1发布在 2007年12月25日。，这是推出市面前最后的一个测试版本。[1]正式版2008年2月27日发布，版本号为6.0 （Build 6001）。在Windows Server 2008发布时，即已包含了SP1.

2009年，推出Windows Server 2008 R2的测试版本，仅有64位元版。

版本

大多数的Windows Server 2008都同时拥有64bit和32bit两个版本，Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-based Systems支持IA-64处理器，IA-64版本被设计用来处理高工作量的工作，比如数据操作或者处理企业核心业务流程。但是IA-64版本没有对文件服务器或者多媒体服务器进行优化。微软宣称Windows Server 2008是该公司最后一个支持32bit的服务器操作系统，从Windows Server 2008 R2起只支援64位元。下面是Windows Server 2008版本的列表，及微软公布的参考售价。它延续了Windows Server 2003的版本命名方式。
